| To them they are the ONLY producer of any given part, they are not competing w. the aftermarket. It's a very simple process, if sales volume falls below whatever threshold they have set up the part gets discontinued. They regularly INCREASE the price of a product before opting to drop it from the catalog. Reproduction Z32 fenders are 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of OEM. Nissan has not lowered the price on theirs EVER and over the last 10 years it continues to go up. I took economics in school too - it just doesn't apply here like you think it does.
